Kali Phos - The Tissue Salt You Need When You're Overworking

A few weeks ago my daughter had a week of tests at school. She studied really hard for them but when she sat down to write her first test her mind went blank. It was a horrible experience for her and she came home 'all in a knot' - tired, anxious, overwrought - and exhausted. She was now so tired and overworked that she just couldn't sleep that night. So I gave her Kali Phos 6X.

Schuessler's biochemic cell salts are gentle yet work deeply

I shared my Kali Phos video below quite a while ago and got so many questions about this remedy that I thought I'd write a blog on it. Kali Phos 6X is my personal favourite "go-to" remedy for when I'm feeling run down from overworking. You know that feeling when you're so tired that you can't sleep? Yes, that's what I said - too tired to sleep!

What are biochemic tissue salts?

Before we look at how Kali Phos 6X can help you, I'll briefly explain what it is, where you can find it and how to take it.

Dr Schuessler and tissue salts

Kali Phos 6X is classified as a biochemic tissue salt. Tissue salts are also called cell salts or Schuessler's cell salts. In the 19th century a German physician, Dr Schuessler, discovered that when reduced to ashes, human cells contain 12 different minerals such as calcium, phosphorous etcetera. He believed the balance and ratios of these minerals play an important role in both our physical health and mental wellbeing and through grinding them in lactose he could triturate them so they become easier for the body to absorb.

Schuessler developed 12 tissue salts, all triturated six times, and labelled them with numbers from 1 to 12. Kali Phos 6X is commonly called tissue salt #6. If you're interested in reading more about the different tissue salts, I highly recommend books by Margaret Roberts (I also love her books on herbs!).

Taking tissue salts

Tissue salts are gentle on the body and are not known to have any side effects if taken as directed on the bottle. However, if you're lactose-intolerant or diabetic, don't buy tissue salts in a pillule form because the pillules are made from lactose (which is a sugar). Instead buy them in a liquid form. Although they can be used for many different health conditions, it's important to remember that they are NOT medicines or supplements and do not replace medical care. As Margaret Roberts says in her book Tissue Salts for Healthy Living, "For minor illnesses and ailments tissue salts are completely safe, but in any event always consult your doctor before starting a home treatment."

Where to buy tissue salts

You can usually buy tissue salts in a health shop or through a naturopath or homoeopath. Many pharmacies also stock them and they're available online. Store them in a dry, dark cupboard when not in use.

Kali Phos 6X - Nature's tranquiliser

  • Anxiety - Kali phos (potassium phosphate) nourishes your nerves, helping you to feel calm and more able to cope with stress. If you're feeling over-emotional, if you can't stop worrying about things, or if you feel like you're just not coping then think about taking some Kali phos for a while. It's also a great remedy for 'butterflies' in your stomach.

  • Overwork - Kali phos is a nerve tonic and a nerve nutrient and so is a wonderful remedy for anyone whose brain is being overstimulated by work, stress or even study. If you have school children or students in your house then you should have a bottle of Kali phos in your house too!

  • Sleep problems - Although Kali phos is not a 'miracle-pill' for insomnia, it is a lovely remedy to help unwind your mind. If you can't sleep because you feel you can't switch your mind off, or if you're too tired and overwrought to sleep, then Kali phos may help. By the way, if you're struggling to sleep then subscribe to my blog below and you'll get access to my special 'subscribers-only' resource page. Here you'll find a free downloadable guide on How to Get a Good Night's Sleep. It has the basic guidelines of sleep hygiene in as well as the recipe for Golden Milk, one of my favourite drinks that help you unwind before sleep. You can subscribe at the end of this page.

  • Premenstrual tension - Due to its calming, nourishing effects, Kali phos is also a lovely remedy if you get anxious, tearful and moody before your period. You know that feeling when you just can't cope anymore...and it occurs at the same time every month!

  • Headaches - Kali phos also helps with headaches that have been caused by overwork, over-studying, or prolonged stress. For a little extra help, take Kali phos together with the tissue salt Mag phos (#8), especially if you've got neck and shoulder tension accompanying your headache.

Kali Phos 6X - A little help for brain fog, burnout and fatigue

In addition to calming and nourishing your nervous system, Kali phos can help you if you're struggling with memory problems, brain fog and nervous exhaustion. If you've been under prolonged stress, feel at the end of your tether, or have noticed that you're becoming hypersensitive to noises or sudden sounds then try some Kali phos to soothe your jangled nerves.

Foods rich in Kali Phos

I strongly believe that food is our medicine so if you're wanting to get more Kali phos in your daily diet, then try eating more of these foods recommended by Margaret Roberts:

  • leafy greens, broccoli, cauliflower

  • olives

  • oats

  • onions & garlic

  • lemons, guavas, cherries, apples and dates.

Here's the original video in which I tell you all about Kali Phos 6x. Enjoy!
